TOPIC: Christians in Government Schools
FOCUS POINT: This discussion is NOT about putting our children into government schools. (Dt 6:7) It is about the involvement of mature Christian adults, principally in American elementary and secondary government schools.
Some questions to ponder in preparation:
- Are government schools a decisive point in the campaign to take dominion over the world in Christ's name? If not, why? If so...have we ignored it/them to our peril?
- Does the Great Commission apply to American government schools?
- How have the enemies of the gospel, intentionally or not, inculcated godlessness in America through the tool of government schools?
- Is merely pulling our own children out of the government school system and giving them a distinctively Christian education comparable to burying our talent?
- What should be the priorities of a Christian teacher in a government school, other than excellence in teaching? Evangelism? Apologetics? Prayer?
- We're teaching our own children to see God's sovereign hand in everything from Latin to Geometry. Should we encourage them to take that message to the world as public school teachers? Who else will do this? Or, does it simply not matter?
- How have well-meaning Christian teachers in public schools seemingly hurt the cause of Christ? What, if anything, should/can we do about this? (e.g.)
- Unbelievers are united in their disdain for Christianity. However, Christians are anything but united in our proclamation of truth. Does multiple Christian teachers in a given public school do more harm than merely leaving that work to the pagans?
- Do you know any Christians teaching in government schools? What are you doing to uphold them?
