"For the advocate is judged by the response of those whose minds he seeks to change, and nothing is more likely to spoil his persuasive effect than to be caught out in a factual mistake, especially if the fact relates to a precedent of which the hearer has independent knowledge. 'It wasn't that way' easily transforms itself into 'The whole case must be wrong.'" - Neustadt and May in Thinking in Time (Free Press 1986)

TOPIC: What issues, if any, should cause a general or specific ecumenical linking of arms?

Some questions to ponder in preparation:

  1. As “People of the Book,” when should Christians and Muslims unite to decrease/eliminate the suffering of the world?
  2. Should Christians unite with Mormons to fight abortion?
  3. Under what circumstances do/should Roman Catholics unite with Protestants?
  4. In which basically altruistic activities would you refuse to unite with benevolent Pagans/Heathens?
Here are some thought provoking sources to help you prepare for the fray:
Ecumenical Jihad - Peter Kreeft
World Council of Churches
National Council of Churches
National Prayer Service Order of Worship (post 9/11)
"God Struck America" - Douglas Wilson
Ecumenism Awareness - Orthodox Christian Information Center
Spring Hill College Theology Library - "Ecumenism and Interfaith Dialogue"
"Fuller Seminary to Create Interfaith Code of Ethics"
European Institute of Protestant Studies - "Ecumenism"
"Evangelicals and Catholics Together"
"Mormon and Christian Unite?"

"Striving Together: A Muslim-Christian Call to Reflection and Action"
