"For the advocate is judged by the response of those whose minds he seeks to change, and nothing is more likely to spoil his persuasive effect than to be caught out in a factual mistake, especially if the fact relates to a precedent of which the hearer has independent knowledge. 'It wasn't that way' easily transforms itself into 'The whole case must be wrong.'" - Neustadt and May in Thinking in Time (Free Press 1986)

TOPIC: What are the relative benefits and/or dangers of contemporary Christian Music

Some questions to ponder in preparation:

  1. Is CCM "Christian?"
  2. Should it matter who owns the companies that produce and distribute CCM?
  3. How should we choose the music to which we listen?
  4. How should we guide the choices of our children with respect to music?
  5. Does music communicate a message? If so,
    1. Is it possible for that message to be neutral...or harmless w/o being explicitely beneficial?
    2. What is the relationsip between lyric and music?
    3. Does purely instrumental music communicate message? If so, how?
  6. What is the relationship between/among music and our minds and bodies?
  7. Does borrowing from a musical style imply borrowing the attendant worldview of the style's originator or strongest proponents?
  8. Can certain music edify some Christians while having the opposite effect on other Christians? If so, how and why?

Just a few research links this time...I dare you to check them out!
